On April 13, 2022, a group of 31 international human rights and civil liberties organizations urged Twitter, Meta, Google, Telegram and Tik Tok to address a double-standard for content moderation policies regarding the conflict in Ukraine. In an open letter, the group called for the social media companies to better protect the free flow of information in conflict zones around the world: “While we recognize the efforts of tech companies to uphold democracy and human rights in Ukraine, we call for long term investment in human rights, accountability, and a transparent, equal and consistent application of policies to uphold the rights of users worldwide.” From The Electronic Frontier Foundation.
